I have done so many fun and wonderful things yet I just want to sit and read my book for the rest of the night. Sorry, I'm failing this blog. But hey look, here is a phot of a squirrel and a girl! From todays picnic with Lindsey and David and Mr. Squirrel Pants.

I stayed at work late then when to the gym and then grocery shopping. Starting a load of laundry at 10:30 is sad but not as sad as being out of clean towels, underwear, and gym clothes. Stupid jerk faced neighbor that was using the dryer as I washed decided to do an extra half hour cycle. Want to go to bed. I feel like I will never have it together enough to own my own washer and dryer.

I went to the flea market today. I haven't gone in so long I forgot how much I just love looking at all the stuff. It got pretty hot though and I needed to get out of the sun after three hours. I went home and finished reading my book. After that I caught up on "This American Life" on-line while making this drawing. I think I will end the night with a movie and call it a perfectly delightful Sunday.

Extreme Poodle

I need to see this show!!!

I was sitting around reading last Saturday afternoon. I was feeling terribly unsocial and just wanted some much needed alone time with my book and a glass of iced coffee. I had kcrw playing softly and there was a pretty song on the radio playing with a lovely female voice. The dj said after the song that it was Karen Elson whom has been one of my favorite models for the last 10 years or so. She is also married to Jack Black. I was super impressed by her song and they said that she was playing at Spaceland on Wednesday and they would be giving away tickets soon. I just went back to reading. When they announced to call in to win tickets for some reason it just struck me to call in and try to win them sense I am a kcrw member. I actually ended up winning the tickets! I couldn't believe it, I've never called in for tickets before. Last year Amanda won Leonard Cohen tickets on KCRW and was kind enough to invite me to be her plus one so I was thrilled to get to offer her my kcrw plus one win.

So last night we went to Spaceland to check out the show. The first opening band was pretty bad but at least they seemed like they were having fun. The second band had a whole retro look that was pretty cool but there was so much echo in the female singers mike I couldn't understand a damn word she sang. I was a bit worried that the night might be a bust. Karen Elson's band took the stage and the men were dressed in super fancy black suits with dust rose shirts and the female base player had on a vintage peach dress with black tights. Karen had on a lovely beach colored vintage gown and her hair was the most beautiful shade of light red and she had this amazing hairstyle that I might try my hand at copying sometime in the future. She is just gorgeous. It's funny because I would never have recognized her if I saw her on the street. She looks so much softer and less edgy in real life. She had the same type of face that surprised me when I met Cindy Crawford in person. Their faces look tiny in person. It must be a super model thing, tiny faces with delicate refined features must photograph better.

When Karen started singing I was really taken aback at how beautiful she sounded and she had some amazing songs. She was such a treat to watch and was so charming. I could not get enough of watching her. If my feet weren't killing me from standing all night I could have watched her all night now. I really hope her music career takes off and she won't be stuck in the shadow of her husband. I highly recommend checking out her music.

Buy the Dress....Bye Dress

I really enjoy looking at all the vintage clothes for sale on-line. I'm trying right now to save some money and not buy anything for awhile. Last night I came across this dress that I just fell deeply in love with. It was $65 which seems about right for such a lovely vintage piece. I was arguing with myself before I went to bed. My brain kept saying 'buy the dress buy the dress.' I finally reasoned with myself to sleep on it and if the dress sold between the night and the morning then it wasn't meant to be. Well sure enough someone bought the dress and I am mixed with relief and sadness. *sigh* it is just a beautiful fun piece.

oh now, I feel better :)

Do you ever have one of those mornings were you can't shake the question 'What am I doing with my life?' Then feel your life slipping by and all you want to do is keep driving away from everything and you can't breath.

It is too early in the week for this.

Desert Heat

Oh man, I was going to post something silly and short but then realized I never recapped my weekend.

So I got an email Friday afternoon from Amanda asking if I wanted to join her and Erin for a trip to Joshua Tree the next day. I had always wanted to go to Joshua Tree before but just never have. I had a few plans for the weekend but I canceled them and hopped a ride Saturday morning to the desert. We got to the park in the afternoon and walked around different parts of of the park. It was stunning. I just love the beauty of the desert. After a few hours at the park we headed to the hotel made some margaritas and set out for the pool. It was the saddest little parking lot pool you have ever seen, we chose the hot tub which was approximately the same size. We had some girl talk that was one for the record books haha. After that we got ready and went to Pappy's and Herriot's for dinner and drinks. That place was AMAZING! Perhaps my new favorite bar. Unfortunately we weren't able to get a table but we ate dinner at the bar. There was a wonderful live honky tonk band and people dancing the 2 step. A man asked me to dance and I was pretty sad to say no because I really just haven't the slightest idea how to do that. Amanda and Erin played pool but I stayed and listened to the band and drank my old fashioned. The next morning we stopped in a cute little cafe in town for some yummy breakfast and then headed to Palm Springs for a bit before driving home. It was the perfect last minute Memorial Day trip.
